Novartis Malaria Initiatives pioneered the high-quality antimalarial Coartem®, an artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT) approved by assessing drug regulatory authorities, which achieves cure rates of over 95% even in areas of multi-drug resistance.
Novartis partnered with Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV) to develop a paediatric formulation, Coartem® Dispersible, specifically designed for children.
Since 2001, Novartis has delivered more than 400 million treatments of Coartem® and Coartem® Dispersible.
Novartis makes Coartem® and Coartem® Dispersible available without profit for distribution in malaria-endemic developing countries.
Novartis is committed to providing up to 100 million Coartem® treatments each year, and to continuing to improve access to Coartem® to vulnerable groups – as a dedicated partner in the fight against malaria.
