Introduction

Each year many international travellers fall ill with malaria while visiting countries where the disease is endemic, and well over 10,000 are reported to fall ill after returning home. Under-reporting may mean that the real figure may be up to 30,000.¹ International travellers are at high risk because they are not immune and often misdiagnosed when they return home.
